Best MSPs for Financial Services in Chicago (2026)

Kate Larsen, IT Research Analyst · Last updated: June 9, 2026 · No paid placements
Ntiva earns the top spot among Chicago-area MSPs serving financial services firms, with CMMC Level 2 certification, published Chicago financial client case studies, and the strongest verified review profile on this list. Sikich and PSM Partners follow for enterprise-scale and boutique financial services IT respectively. Rankings use the itreviews.co Trust Score methodology, applied identically to every provider. No provider paid for placement.

Quick Picks

  • Best Overall: Ntiva (8.1/10)
  • Best for Enterprise-Scale Financial IT: Sikich (7.8/10)
  • Best Chicago-Native MSP for Financial Services: PSM Partners (7.3/10)
  • Best for Pure Financial Institution Focus: Xamin (5.5/10)

Chicago sits at the center of a financial services market that reaches well beyond LaSalle Street: community banks across the suburbs, RIA firms in the Loop, insurance companies in the North Shore corridor, accounting practices in Naperville and Schaumburg. The IT requirements differ from market to market, but the compliance pressure doesn’t — GLBA, SOX, PCI DSS, SEC recordkeeping, FINRA cybersecurity rules. Miss one, and the consequences aren’t hypothetical.

That’s what makes choosing a managed IT provider for a financial firm in Chicagoland a different decision than choosing one for a retail operation or a marketing agency. The MSP needs to understand what an auditor expects before the auditor shows up — not after.

We evaluated seven MSPs operating in the Chicago metropolitan area that have documented financial services expertise, then scored each one using the itreviews.co Trust Score methodology. Same criteria. Same weights. Every provider. No provider paid for their ranking. No provider submitted their own data.

How We Ranked These Chicago Financial Services MSPs

Trust Score Factors — Chicago Financial Services MSP Rankings

35%
Review ScorePulls from three platforms. Clutch ratings carry the heaviest sub-weight because those reviews come from verified phone interviews with real clients, not self-submitted star ratings. Google provides baseline volume and rating; Cloudtango adds an IT-specific signal. Volume uses a logarithmic scale, so an MSP serving twelve institutional finance clients isn’t penalized against one with eighty small-business reviews.
20%
Industry Awards & RecognitionCovers Channel Futures MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Inc. 5000, and Cloudtango MSP Select. Multiple appearances across years score higher than a single listing.
15%
Years in BusinessMeasures operational stability. Building and keeping a financial services client base takes years. Firms with two decades of operation and named leadership teams score highest here.
10%
Physical PresenceVerifies real offices, Google Maps listings, and local staff in the Chicago metro area.
10%
Industry SpecializationEvaluates documented financial services expertise: dedicated vertical pages, named compliance certifications, and case studies naming financial clients. Not a checkbox.
10%
Service BreadthMeasures documented capability across the full MSP stack — helpdesk, network, cloud, cybersecurity, backup/DR, vCIO, and compliance support.

Every input is independently verifiable, and paid signals are filtered out — an MSP can buy a directory listing, but it can’t retroactively buy a Channel Futures MSP of the Year title. No paid placements, and no provider-submitted data. Read the full methodology →

Ntiva managed IT services for financial services Chicago homepage

Ntiva lands at #1 because they’re the only provider on this list combining a strong, independently verified review trail with published financial services case studies specific to Chicago-area firms.

Key Strengths

  • CMMC Level 2 certified through an accredited C3PAO — not self-assessed readiness, but a full third-party assessment, which puts them ahead of most MSPs claiming CMMC capability
  • Two published financial services case studies with Chicago connections: Destra Capital moved to Ntiva’s fully hosted cloud to meet SEC/FINRA requirements, and Home State Bank used the co-managed IT model to modernize across six regional offices
  • CRN Triple Crown Award winner in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, plus five consecutive years on the Inc. 5000 list — no other provider here matches that sustained award trajectory
  • Dedicated financial services practice covering SEC Regulation S-P, FINRA recordkeeping, GLBA, and SOX compliance — a documented practice area, not an SEO landing page

Limitations

  • The Chicago-area presence is real but suburban — the local office is at 801 Oak Creek Dr in Lombard, not downtown Chicago
  • Financial services is one of 8+ verticals; a hedge fund that wants a finance-only MSP may prefer a pure-play specialist like Xamin
  • Only 1 Google review on the Chicago-area listing — reviews concentrate at other offices, so the local review signal is thin

Best For

Mid-market financial firms (50–500 employees) in Chicagoland that need SEC/FINRA compliance support alongside full-stack managed IT, particularly those evaluating CMMC readiness.

Not Ideal For

Small accounting firms in the Loop looking for a local boutique MSP, or hedge funds that want a finance-only provider.

Why They Rank #1

The Trust Score rewards independently verified evidence. Ntiva has the deepest awards stack, the strongest Clutch review profile (5.0 across 18 verified reviews), and published case studies that name specific Chicago financial clients. Most MSPs on this list claim financial services capability. Ntiva documented it, then had it verified by third parties.

Sikich managed IT services Chicago financial services homepage

Sikich isn’t a traditional MSP that added consulting. They’re a top CPA firm that built an enterprise-grade managed services practice on top of four decades of financial industry relationships.

Key Strengths

  • Founded in 1982 — 44 years of continuous operation, the longest track record of any provider on this list by a wide margin
  • Ranked on the Channel Futures MSP 501 multiple times, including #43 in 2019 and on the 2025 list — consistent Tier 1 recognition over six-plus years
  • 1,900+ employees across consulting, technology, compliance, and advisory; Bain Capital invested $250 million in a minority growth stake in 2024
  • Financial services is a named vertical rooted in the CPA practice; acquired Burwood Group in April 2026 to expand IT consulting in healthcare, higher education, and financial services

Limitations

  • The Google review profile is a problem: 3.7 stars on 3 reviews. The low count likely reflects an enterprise client mix, but the 3.7 rating itself is a real signal
  • Sikich is an enormous organization; a 20-person advisory firm may feel like a small fish in a multi-billion-dollar professional services company
  • Clutch rating (4.8 across 22 reviews) is solid but not as strong as Ntiva or PSM Partners

Best For

Mid-market and enterprise financial firms (100+ employees) that want a single provider covering IT, compliance, cybersecurity, and business advisory under one relationship.

Not Ideal For

Small financial practices looking for a lean, hands-on boutique MSP.

Why They Rank #2

Longevity and scale carry weight in this scoring model: 44 years, MSP 501 across multiple years, and a Chicago headquarters employing nearly two thousand people. The Google review score kept them from #1 — if that profile were a 4.7 with 30+ reviews instead of a 3.7 with 3, this ranking order would be different.

PSM Partners financial services IT support Chicago homepage

PSM Partners was founded in 2015 in Chicago’s financial district. The founders came from 70+ combined years in technology consulting, and financial services was one of the first verticals they built around.

Key Strengths

  • 4.9 Google rating with 43 reviews — the strongest local Google review profile on this list, and it’s not close
  • Dedicated financial services page with documented FINRA, SEC, and PCI DSS compliance capabilities; they specifically call out M&A IT due diligence as a service
  • Downtown Chicago headquarters at 209 W Jackson Blvd, with named leadership; the firm caps its company size to protect culture
  • 5.0 Clutch rating — only 4 reviews, but perfect marks across them

Limitations

  • Founded in 2015 (eleven years in operation), the second-youngest company on this list; the scoring model weighs longevity
  • Award profile is light on Tier 1 national recognition — CRN, Channel Futures, and NABR awards are documented, but no MSP 501 or Inc. 5000 appearances found
  • Financial services is one of six or seven documented verticals, shared with healthcare, legal, manufacturing, nonprofit, and energy

Best For

SMB to mid-market financial firms (25–250 employees) in downtown Chicago that want a hands-on, relationship-driven MSP with real compliance documentation.

Not Ideal For

Large financial institutions that need a nationally scaled operation, or firms outside the Chicago metro area.

Why They Rank #3

PSM’s local review signal is the strongest on this list — 43 Google reviews at 4.9 stars from a boutique firm is exceptional. The financial services practice is documented with named compliance frameworks, and the downtown location means real accessibility for Loop-based firms. What holds them back is youth and a thinner award stack.

EMPIST managed IT services Chicago homepage

EMPIST has been operating out of downtown Chicago since 2000. They started as Digerati Group, rebranded, and have quietly built a 76-review Google profile that no other provider on this list comes close to matching on volume.

Key Strengths

  • 76 Google reviews — the volume reflects a high-throughput SMB client base that actually leaves reviews; the 4.6 rating is lower than PSM’s 4.9, but the volume makes the sample statistically meaningful
  • 26 years of continuous operation from 55 W Monroe St in the Loop; named on Expertise.com’s Top 20 Chicago MSPs
  • Clutch profile shows a 4.8 rating with 11 verified reviews, including work with an investment consulting firm
  • Security Bundle covering compliance, MFA management, dark web monitoring, password management, and security awareness training at a published per-user monthly rate — a documented, affordable entry point for small financial firms

Limitations

  • Financial services is documented as a served vertical but isn’t EMPIST’s primary identity — no dedicated financial services compliance page with FINRA or SEC-specific documentation
  • No Tier 1 industry awards (MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Inc. 5000) found in our research; the award factor scored lowest here
  • Google rating of 4.6 is the lowest on this list among providers with a meaningful review count

Best For

SMB financial and professional services firms (10–100 employees) in downtown Chicago that value longevity, affordability, and high-touch local support.

Not Ideal For

Regulated broker-dealers or hedge funds that need documented SEC/FINRA examination preparation support.

Why They Rank #4

EMPIST scores well on the factors that reward sustained, local operation — 26 years in the Loop, a massive Google review volume, and verified Clutch reviews including financial services clients. What’s missing is the compliance depth and national recognition that push Ntiva, Sikich, and PSM higher.

Coretelligent managed IT financial services Chicago homepage

Coretelligent was built for financial services and life sciences. Those aren’t marketing checkboxes — they’re the core of the business. The gap isn’t specialization. It’s local presence.

Key Strengths

  • CRN MSP 500 Elite 150 recognition across multiple years, plus Channel Futures MSP 501 (2020) — a strong Tier 1 award stack
  • Financial services and life sciences are primary verticals with documented SEC alignment; the 2022 acquisition of Lighthouse Technology Partners deepened their hedge fund and family office client base
  • Founded 2006, Norwest Equity Partners-backed, with offices in NYC, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Tampa, and 500+ clients

Limitations

  • No local Google Maps listing for Chicago was found during data collection — a real gap for a city-specific evaluation
  • Only 1 verified Clutch review; for a firm this size and this well-credentialed, the thin review profile is the biggest drag on the score
  • Chicago is listed as a service area, not a staffed office — if you need someone on-site at a Loop office on short notice, the national model may not deliver

Best For

Mid-market financial firms (50–300 employees) that prioritize specialized financial services IT expertise over local physical presence.

Not Ideal For

Chicago firms that need on-site response from local engineers, or any firm that weighs Google review signals heavily.

Why They Rank #5

Coretelligent’s financial services depth is real. But the Trust Score doesn’t care how good you are at something if buyers can’t verify it locally. No Chicago GMB, 1 Clutch review, and a service-area model rather than a staffed office knocked this score down from where it would rank on a national list.

Isidore Group managed IT services Chicago homepage

The Isidore Group put their main office at 205 N Michigan Ave and built a client base across Chicagoland SMBs using a Director of Client Experience model where every client gets a named relationship manager. Financial services is a listed vertical, but the specialization is still developing.

Key Strengths

  • 5.0 Google rating with 21 reviews — a clean local review profile; BBB accredited; MSP 501 ranked
  • Financial services page documents PCI DSS, SOX, and GLBA compliance capabilities; also covers construction, dental, and healthcare
  • Downtown Michigan Avenue office with a named Director of Client Experience model — every client gets a relationship manager

Limitations

  • No Clutch reviews — a profile exists but sits empty, and the Clutch penalty in our model costs Isidore real points
  • Founded 2014 (twelve years in operation), the youngest firm on this list
  • Financial services documentation is general, not deep — no FINRA, SEC, or examination-specific content visible on the site

Best For

SMB financial and professional services firms (10–75 employees) in Chicagoland that want a locally rooted MSP with a relationship-driven model.

Not Ideal For

Regulated financial institutions that need documented SEC/FINRA examination support or deep compliance-as-a-service capabilities.

Why They Rank #6

Isidore Group has what a lot of national MSPs on this list don’t: a clean local reputation, a downtown Chicago address, and a named client experience model. What they’re missing is the review breadth, award depth, and compliance documentation that would push them higher. Building out the Clutch profile alone could change this score significantly.

Xamin managed IT financial institutions Chicago homepage

Xamin is the most specialized provider on this list. The entire company exists to serve financial institutions and regulated industries — their tagline is “Shaped by Auditors for Auditors.” The problem is that nobody reviewing them publicly seems to know that.

Key Strengths

  • Purpose-built for financial institutions since 1999 — community banks, fintech companies, and regulated industries are the core client base, not one of eight verticals
  • SOC 2 Type II certified across all five trust principles (availability, confidentiality, privacy, processing integrity, security), with an annual third-party audit — a certification level rare among Chicago MSPs
  • Subsidiary of Mowery & Schoenfeld, a Top 10 Illinois CPA firm, giving integrated access to audit, tax, and cybersecurity resources
  • Channel Futures MSP 501 (2020); 27 years of continuous operation from the Chicago suburbs

Limitations

  • Zero Clutch reviews and virtually no Google volume (5.0 on 1 review) — the review factor is 35% of the Trust Score, and Xamin scored 2/10 on it, because institutional clients don’t leave public reviews
  • Lincolnshire, IL headquarters with a Chicago office at 213 W Institute Pl — present in the metro but not headquartered in the city
  • The MSP 501 appearance was 2020; no more recent Tier 1 recognition found in current research

Best For

Community banks, fintech companies, credit unions, and insurance firms (25–200 employees) that need an MSP built specifically for financial institution compliance and auditor readiness.

Not Ideal For

Financial firms that heavily weight public review signals, or firms looking for a large, nationally scaled MSP.

Why They Rank #7

The Trust Score model measures publicly verifiable signals. Xamin’s financial services specialization is the deepest on this list, and their SOC 2 Type II certification is genuine. But zero public review presence, a single Tier 1 award from 2020, and suburban positioning pushed the score down. If you’re a community bank CFO who cares about auditor readiness more than Google stars, Xamin deserves a conversation regardless of where they rank here.

How to Choose an MSP for Your Financial Firm in Chicago

Start with your compliance obligations, not your IT wish list. The right MSP for a FINRA-registered broker-dealer looks different from the right MSP for a CPA practice.

If you’re a regulated financial institution (bank, credit union, broker-dealer, RIA): Compliance examination readiness is non-negotiable. Ask whether the MSP has supported clients through a FINRA cycle exam or SEC examination, not just whether they can spell GLBA. Ntiva and Xamin are the strongest choices — Ntiva brings CMMC Level 2 and documented case studies; Xamin brings 27 years of purpose-built financial institution IT with SOC 2 Type II and a CPA parent.

If you’re a CPA firm or small advisory practice: Your compliance landscape is real but different — SOX readiness, GLBA, PCI DSS if you process client payments. You don’t need a hedge fund IT specialist. PSM Partners and EMPIST serve this segment with downtown Chicago presence and hands-on support models.

Mid-market financial firms with 100+ employees need scale. Sikich (1,900+ employees, 44 years, Bain Capital-backed) and Ntiva (500+ employees nationally, multi-city offices) can handle the complexity of a growing financial operation without outgrowing the relationship.

If on-site response in downtown Chicago is critical: PSM Partners (209 W Jackson Blvd), EMPIST (55 W Monroe St), and Isidore Group (205 N Michigan Ave) all have confirmed downtown addresses. The national providers on this list operate primarily through remote support models.

One thing across the board. Don’t sign a contract with any MSP without asking to see their incident response plan. Not a summary — the actual plan. If they hesitate, keep looking.

Ntiva earned the #1 spot because the data supports it: the strongest verified review trail, the deepest awards stack, CMMC Level 2 certification, and published case studies with Chicago financial firms. Sikich follows with 44 years and enterprise-scale resources that smaller providers can’t match.

But the #1 provider isn’t always the right provider. If you’re a community bank that needs an MSP built from the ground up for auditor readiness, Xamin’s specialization matters more than their review count. If you want a boutique, downtown Chicago firm with a clean 4.9-star Google profile and documented FINRA/SEC compliance capabilities, PSM Partners is the better fit.

Things Financial Firms Ask Before Choosing a Chicago MSP

It means the MSP documents, implements, and can prove adherence to the regulatory frameworks that apply to your specific type of financial firm. For broker-dealers, that’s FINRA Rule 3110 and SEC Regulation S-P. For banks, GLBA and FFIEC guidance. For any firm processing card payments, PCI DSS. An MSP that says it handles compliance without naming specific frameworks and describing what it’s actually done during an examination is a red flag.
Chicago MSPs typically charge between $95 and $250 per user per month for full managed services. The lower end covers basic monitoring and helpdesk; the upper end includes cybersecurity, compliance documentation, vCISO, and strategic planning. For financial firms, budget closer to the upper range because compliance-ready IT costs more than basic support. EMPIST’s Security Bundle is offered at a published per-user monthly add-on rate, which gives a rough floor for cybersecurity-specific costs.
For helpdesk, cloud management, and cybersecurity monitoring, location doesn’t matter — those happen remotely. For on-site response during a server emergency, for sitting in a conference room during a regulatory examination, for being there when the auditor shows up, proximity matters. Ntiva has a suburban Chicago office. Coretelligent lists Chicago as a service area without a confirmed local listing. PSM Partners and EMPIST are both in the Loop.
Type I is a snapshot — it says your controls were adequate at a point in time. Type II demonstrates your controls were effective over a sustained period (usually 6 to 12 months) through continuous monitoring. Financial regulators and institutional clients care about Type II because it’s harder to fake. Xamin holds SOC 2 Type II across all five trust principles, which is the most rigorous version.
Sikich actually does both — they’re one of the largest CPA firms in the United States with an embedded managed services practice. For some mid-market firms, having audit, tax, and IT under one roof reduces vendor sprawl. For others, the independence concern matters: if your CPA firm is also your IT provider, who audits the IT? That’s a real question worth asking, not a dealbreaker, but something to think through before signing.
