Best MSPs in Austin, TX (2026)

Kate Larsen, IT Research Analyst · Last updated: May 4, 2026 · No paid placements
Centre Technologies ranks #1 among Austin MSPs for 2026 with a 9.3/10 Trust Score, earning the deepest award stack in the market — six consecutive years on the CRN MSP 500, three Channel Futures MSP 501 appearances, and 339 verified Google reviews at 5.0. TPx Communications (8.3) is the strongest enterprise option, headquartered in Austin with a #7 placement on the 2025 MSP 501. Contigo Technology (7.3) is the largest independently owned Austin-only MSP. Every score reflects the itreviews.co Trust Score methodology applied identically to every provider.

Quick Picks

  • Best Overall: Centre Technologies
  • Best for Enterprise / Multi-Site: TPx Communications
  • Best Independent Austin-Only MSP: Contigo Technology
  • Best Long-Tenured Local Option: GCS Technologies (25+ years)

  • Best Legacy Austin Provider: IT Freedom (a Thrive Company)

Austin has more than 200 active managed service providers. Every directory ranks them differently — Clutch sorts by paid placements, DesignRush mixes Austin firms with offshore agencies, most “top 10” lists are written by the providers ranking themselves on them.

What follows is an independent ranking of seven Austin MSPs, scored using the itreviews.co Trust Score methodology across six factors: verified reviews, third-party industry awards, years in business, physical Austin presence, vertical specialization, and service depth. No provider paid for placement. The highest score ranks first.

Austin’s MSP market has its own shape. Tech-native companies along the Silicon Hills corridor want strong cloud and Microsoft 365 depth. SMBs in legal, healthcare, and professional services need compliance posture that holds up under audit. Government contractors and defense-adjacent firms care about CMMC and SOC 2. The right provider depends entirely on which of those buckets you live in.

Six independently researched criteria applied the same way to every provider. No provider paid for placement. No provider submitted their own data.

Trust Score Factors — Austin MSP Rankings

35%
Review ScoreVerified client feedback across Clutch, Google, and Cloudtango. Clutch carries the most weight because reviews are conducted via verified phone interviews. Volume is scored logarithmically — going from 0 to 8 reviews matters more than going from 80 to 800.
20%
Industry Awards & RecognitionChannel Futures MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Inc. 5000, Cloudtango MSP Select. “Award-winning” claims without a named, verifiable award attached don’t count.
15%
Years in BusinessProviders with 20+ years of documented operation score higher than newer entrants. Founding year triangulated from company website, LinkedIn, and domain registration — most conservative verifiable date wins.
10%
Physical PresenceA real Austin office, named local staff, and a verified Google Maps presence. Multi-city firms with one of many offices in Austin score lower than HQ-based providers with distributed local engineers.
10%
Industry SpecializationDocumented vertical experience. HIPAA-compliant healthcare pages count. Listing healthcare in a bullet does not. Same for FINRA, CMMC, SOC 2, and any other regulated vertical.
10%
Service BreadthFull core stack (helpdesk, network, endpoint, cybersecurity, cloud, BDR, vCIO) plus premium differentiators. Documented depth, not bullet-point breadth.

Centre is the only provider on this list recognized by every major MSP industry award body in the same year. 339 verified Google reviews at a 5.0 rating at the Austin office — an order of magnitude higher than the next closest competitor. Six consecutive years on the CRN MSP 500. Channel Futures MSP 501 ranking jumped from #388 in 2024 to #155 in 2025. SOC 2 Type II attested. Texas DIR Cyberstar Program certified. 1,175+ businesses supported.

Key Strengths

  • 339 verified Google reviews at 5.0 at the Austin office — the highest review volume on this list by a significant margin
  • Six consecutive years on the CRN MSP 500 including Pioneer 250 designation in 2026 — CRN evaluates revenue, growth, and recurring revenue mix, not just marketing
  • Channel Futures MSP 501 ranking: #388 in 2024 to #155 in 2025 — that kind of trajectory doesn’t happen by accident
  • SOC 2 Type II attested, Texas DIR Cyberstar certified, Microsoft Solutions Partner, Cisco Partner Select, Dell Gold, Citrix Premier — the vendor partnership stack is one of the deepest in the state
  • Six dedicated industry pages (Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Financial Services, Legal, Construction), each backed by named case studies and compliance frameworks

Limitations

  • Headquartered in Houston, not Austin — the Austin office at 2204 Forbes Dr is real and verified, but if you specifically want an MSP whose entire operating identity is Austin, that’s not Centre
  • Vendor partnership depth creates a corresponding bias toward the Microsoft and Dell ecosystem; Mac-heavy or Linux-heavy environments should raise this before signing
  • Mid-market pricing — their stated client mix is 80% mid-market ($10M–$1B) and 20% small business; sub-$10M companies should confirm the engagement model fits their budget

Best For

Mid-market companies (50–500 employees) with regulated workloads, especially in healthcare, financial services, or manufacturing. Buyers who care about provable third-party credibility.

Not Ideal For

Sub-50-employee SMBs looking for a hometown shop, or Mac-heavy creative firms needing a provider whose first call isn’t Microsoft.

Why They Rank #1

Centre earns this position because no other provider in Austin has assembled the same combination of independently verifiable signals across every factor. The 339 Google reviews are verified. The CRN and Channel Futures recognition evaluates financial performance, not marketing. The SOC 2 Type II attestation required a third-party auditor to sign off. None of these signals are self-reported. Every one is checkable. That’s what a #1 ranking should look like.

TPx isn’t a local Austin MSP — they’re a 1,250-employee national managed services company headquartered at 303 Colorado Street in downtown Austin. Channel Futures MSP 501 ranking of #7 in 2025. Seven consecutive years on the MSP 501. Founded in 1998, with leadership documented from CEO through CFO. Roughly 30,000 customers across 53,000 locations. 4.3 rating on 72 verified Clutch reviews.

Key Strengths

  • Channel Futures MSP 501 #7 globally in 2025 — top 1.4% of managed service providers worldwide; seven consecutive years on the list
  • 28 years of continuous operation, with C-suite leadership publicly documented
  • Full UCaaS, SD-WAN, MDR, EDR, managed firewall, and managed Microsoft 365 stack with their own SOC and published performance guarantees
  • 30,000 customers across 53,000 locations — if you have 65 retail stores or seven medical facilities, TPx has done that scope of rollout repeatedly

Limitations

  • No verified Google Maps business listing for their Austin headquarters — unusual for a company of this size and tenure
  • Some Clutch clients have raised billing accuracy and administrative process issues — worth asking about directly during the sales process
  • Service model built for multi-site, mid-market and up — a 12-employee Austin startup is not their target customer and you’ll feel that

Best For

Multi-location enterprises and mid-market companies with national footprints. Especially retail chains, distributed healthcare networks, financial services with regional offices, and government entities.

Not Ideal For

Sub-50-employee Austin SMBs. Founder-led companies wanting a single named technical lead they can call directly.

Why They Rank #2

TPx loses points on physical presence because their support is national rather than Austin-localized. They keep almost everything else. The MSP 501 #7 placement is the strongest single award on this entire page. The 28-year operating history is the longest of any verified provider in the list. For multi-site enterprise connectivity and managed security, TPx is in a different category.

Contigo is what most Austin SMB buyers actually mean when they say they want a “local MSP.” Founded in Austin. Headquartered in Austin. Owned by people who live in Austin. No private equity. No acquired-and-rebranded backstory. Three-time Inc. 5000 honoree (2019, 2020, 2021) — that ranking is based on three-year revenue growth, which is harder to fake than most awards. 96 Google reviews at 4.8. SOC 2 Type 1 certified, Type 2 in process.

Key Strengths

  • Three-time Inc. 5000 honoree (2019, 2020, 2021) — revenue growth ranking that documents three consecutive years of measurable performance
  • 96 Google reviews at 4.8 — double or triple what most Austin-only MSPs have built
  • 32-person team supporting 120+ companies and 4,500+ end users; Premier Partner of the Austin Regional Manufacturing Association
  • Explicitly states they do not buy other MSPs and are not for sale — unusual stability signal in a market where most local MSPs eventually get rolled up

Limitations

  • No Cloudtango MSP Select recognition, no CRN MSP 500, no Channel Futures MSP 501 — the credibility trail is growth-focused, not service-quality-focused
  • Founded 2013 — 12 years of operation, solid but less than half the runway of GCS or IT Freedom
  • No active Clutch reviews — 96 Google reviews but zero verified Clutch reviews, which limits the third-party diligence trail

Best For

Austin SMBs (10–100 employees) that specifically want a locally owned, locally operated MSP. Manufacturing firms (ARMA partnership). Companies that prioritize SOC 2 compliance posture.

Not Ideal For

Multi-state operations needing unified coverage. Buyers who require independently audited Clutch references during vendor selection.

Why They Rank #3

Contigo is the strongest Austin-native independent on this list. The Inc. 5000 history documents three consecutive years of measurable growth. Where Contigo loses points is on the awards factor — the major MSP industry recognitions (MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Cloudtango Select) just haven’t shown up. That’s not a quality knock. It’s a credibility-trail gap that’s correctable over time.

GCS has been doing managed IT in Austin since 2000 — 25 years. The Austin Soccer Club uses them. So do Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta, Urology Austin, and Capital Surgeons Group. That’s the kind of client list you don’t fake. 4.8 Google rating on 79 verified reviews. Microsoft Solutions Partner with deep Microsoft 365 and Azure expertise. Industry mix: 40% financial services, 20% government, 20% medical, 10% legal.

Key Strengths

  • 4.8 Google rating on 79 verified reviews — strong rating with real volume from named Austin-area clients
  • 25 years of continuous Austin operation since 2000 — stability that survives recessions, vendor consolidations, and three different IT support paradigms
  • Microsoft Solutions Partner with deep Microsoft 365 and Azure expertise; the fintech concentration in Austin makes this a strong fit
  • Tier 3 support model explicitly positioned to supplement internal IT teams — right fit for mid-market companies with one or two IT staff needing senior project capacity

Limitations

  • No major MSP industry awards — no MSP 501, no CRN MSP 500, no Cloudtango MSP Select, no Inc. 5000
  • No active Clutch reviews — the Google reviews are strong but the Clutch profile sits empty
  • Microsoft-centric stack — not the natural fit for Google Workspace, AWS-only, or Mac-heavy creative environments

Best For

Mid-market Austin businesses running on Microsoft 365 and Azure. Healthcare, legal, and financial services firms with internal IT teams needing senior-level project support.

Not Ideal For

Google Workspace shops. Mac-first creative agencies. Buyers who require recent third-party industry recognition from national MSP lists.

Why They Rank #4

GCS scores well on the foundational factors — the 25-year history is real, the 79 Google reviews at 4.8 are real, the Microsoft depth is real. What pulls the score down is the awards factor (20% of the model). GCS has built the business by serving clients quietly and well, which is admirable but doesn’t generate the third-party recognition signals the Trust Score weights heavily. If you weight tenure and client retention over award visibility, GCS deserves a closer look than rank #4 implies.

Live Oak has the cleanest review record on this entire list. 5.0 on Clutch (4 reviews). 5.0 on Google (49 reviews). Not a single sub-five-star anywhere. Founded in Austin in 2014. Named clients include Texas Society of CPAs, Texas PTA, and Independent Insurance Agents of Texas — a credibility list that’s hard to manufacture. Security stack includes Vulnerability Management, Dark Web Monitoring, Managed SIEM, and Identity & Access Management.

Key Strengths

  • Perfect 5.0 on both Clutch and Google — 4 Clutch reviews and 49 Google reviews, not a single sub-five-star
  • Named clients include Texas Society of CPAs, Texas PTA, Independent Insurance Agents of Texas — a verifiable client list
  • Six dedicated vertical pages (legal, manufacturing, nonprofits, private schools, religious organizations, restaurants) each with named client examples
  • Security stack deeper than the typical SMB MSP: Vulnerability Management, Dark Web Monitoring, Managed SIEM, Identity & Access Management

Limitations

  • Eleven years in business — not new, but not 25 years either; the longevity score reflects that
  • No major industry awards — no MSP 501, no Cloudtango MSP Select, no CRN MSP 500
  • Only 4 verified Clutch reviews given their company size; the verified-review trail is thin relative to what their quality suggests

Best For

Sub-50-employee Austin businesses wanting high-touch, relationship-driven support. Nonprofits, religious organizations, private schools, and professional services firms wanting a provider who shows up in person.

Not Ideal For

Mid-market companies needing a deep enterprise stack or extensive third-party award trail.

Why They Rank #5

Live Oak ranks below GCS despite higher review ratings because the Trust Score weights years in business and awards — both of which favor GCS. Live Oak is younger and has fewer external accolades. Both are correctable over time. The review record suggests service quality is among the best on this list. The data trail just hasn’t accumulated to the depth of older or more decorated competitors.

Geography flag: IT GOAT’s primary verified office is in Dallas (5005 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy). Their website includes an Austin service page, but no verified Austin Google Business listing was found in research. Request a named Austin office address and local Austin engineers before signing any contract.

IT GOAT is the youngest provider on this list, founded in 2018, and one of the most awarded. CRN MSP 500 2026. Cloudtango MSP Select 2026. Two Tier 1 awards in the same year. 4.7 rating on 13 verified Clutch reviews at Premier Verified status. Documented cybersecurity orientation — EDR, MDR, threat detection, managed Azure and AWS, and 24/7 support with published average inbound call response of 80–94 seconds.

Key Strengths

  • Cloudtango MSP Select 2026 and CRN MSP 500 2026 — two Tier 1 industry awards in the same year; strong recent recognition
  • 4.7 on 13 verified Clutch reviews at Premier Verified status — verified phone-interview reviews, not self-submitted
  • Cybersecurity orientation is real: EDR, MDR, breach response, identity management, and documented 24/7 support with published response metrics

Limitations

  • Primary office is Dallas, not Austin — only verified Google Business listing is at the Dallas HQ; Austin physical presence not independently confirmed
  • Founded 2018 — seven years of operation; youngest provider on this list
  • The 78 Google reviews at 5.0 and Clutch reviews reflect Dallas delivery; whether the same quality translates to Austin engagements is unverified

Best For

Buyers who weight recent industry recognition heavily and are flexible on physical office location. Cybersecurity-led IT decisions. Multi-Texas-location firms wanting a single MSP across Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.

Not Ideal For

Buyers who require a verified physical Austin office and on-site response. Companies that weight years-in-business and local presence heavily in their vendor selection.

Why They Rank #6

IT GOAT’s recent awards are genuinely strong, and the Trust Score model rewards them. Where they lose points is on physical presence and years in business, which together count for 25% of the model. The geography flag is the most significant single concern on this entire ranking. Confirm the Austin office address and Austin-based engineering staff before any contract is signed.

IT Freedom a Thrive Company managed IT services in Austin TX homepage

IT Freedom has been operating in Austin since 1999 — 26 years, the longest tenure on this list. They were doing fixed-fee managed services before “MSP” was even an industry term. In 2023, they were acquired by Thrive, a Massachusetts-based national MSP backed by Court Square Capital Partners. The brand still operates as “IT Freedom, a Thrive Company” out of the Austin office on N Mopac Expressway.

Key Strengths

  • 26 years of continuous Austin operation — the longest tenure on this list; Founder Carey Jung is documented in industry coverage
  • Now backed by Thrive’s NextGen Managed Security & Services Platform — a meaningful capability uplift on cybersecurity and compliance post-acquisition
  • Inc. 5000 honoree (2017) — pre-acquisition track record of independent recognition
  • Thrive itself has 1,000+ employees globally; the combined entity has resources that an independent 25-person MSP can’t match

Limitations

  • No active Clutch profile with verified reviews; no active Google Maps business listing for the IT Freedom MSP at the Mopac address — both gaps are unusual for this tenure
  • Brand and operating identity have shifted post-acquisition — buyers signing today are signing with Thrive’s national platform, not the independent IT Freedom of 2019
  • Austin-specific staff continuity post-acquisition isn’t independently verifiable from public sources

Best For

Long-standing IT Freedom clients continuing under the Thrive operating model. Mid-market companies wanting an Austin presence with national platform backing.

Not Ideal For

Buyers who specifically want an independent, owner-operated Austin MSP. Companies that require a strong third-party review trail before signing.

Why They Rank #7

This ranking reflects what the Trust Score model can verify, not the underlying capability of the team. IT Freedom’s 26-year history is real. The Thrive platform is real. What pulls the score down is the absence of recent independent review data on Clutch, Google, and Cloudtango. A buyer who can verify those signals through direct reference checks should weigh this provider higher than rank #7 alone implies.

How to Choose an MSP in Austin

Sub-50-employee Austin SMB: Contigo Technology, Live Oak IT Partners, or GCS Technologies. All three have verified Austin offices, strong Google review records, and SMB-tuned service models. Pick by industry fit — manufacturing goes to Contigo (ARMA partnership), Microsoft-heavy environments go to GCS, and if you want the highest-touch boutique experience, Live Oak.

50–500-employee mid-market firm with regulated workloads: Centre Technologies. The award stack is real. The compliance posture is real. The mid-market client mix is documented (80% mid-market). For healthcare, legal, financial services, or manufacturing, this is the strongest fit on this list.

Multi-site operations or national footprint: TPx Communications. The 1,250-employee scale, the SD-WAN and managed connectivity depth, and the 30,000-customer track record make this a different category of partner. Confirm the engagement model matches what a single-site Austin SMB needs versus what a 65-store retail chain needs.

Cybersecurity recognition is your top criterion: IT GOAT, but verify the Austin office before signing. The CRN MSP 500 and Cloudtango MSP Select 2026 awards are legitimate. The geography is the open question — that’s not a reason to disqualify them, but it is a reason to require a physical address and named Austin engineers before executing a contract.

Pricing benchmark: Austin MSPs run roughly $75–$200 per user per month for fully managed IT, with most SMBs landing in the $100–$150 range. Lower end is helpdesk and basic monitoring. Upper end includes SOC, vCIO, and compliance support. For project work, hourly rates in Austin run $125–$200. Ask every provider specifically about response time SLAs, patching cadence, and what security tools are included in the base plan versus billed separately.

Centre Technologies ranks #1 in Austin for 2026 because no other provider has assembled the same depth of independently verifiable signals. The 339 Google reviews at 5.0, the six consecutive years on the CRN MSP 500, the SOC 2 Type II attestation, and the six dedicated industry pages aren’t marketing claims. They’re public, checkable facts.

For mid-market companies in regulated verticals, Centre is the clearest fit. For multi-site enterprises, TPx is a stronger match by a wide margin. For Austin SMBs that specifically want a hometown owner-operated provider, Contigo is the strongest independent option on this list. For neighboring Texas markets, see our rankings for Best MSPs in Houston and Best MSPs in Dallas.

What Austin Buyers Actually Want to Know

Below 25 employees, a single IT generalist or part-time contractor often works fine. Between 25 and 100 employees, the math usually shifts toward an MSP. You’re paying $80,000–$130,000 fully loaded for a single mid-level IT hire who has one set of skills, takes vacation, and gets sick. An MSP gives you helpdesk, network, security, and cloud expertise across a team for roughly the same cost. Above 100 employees, the question becomes whether you co-manage with internal staff or fully outsource — most Austin mid-market firms land on co-managed.
$75–$200 per user per month for fully managed services, with most Austin SMBs landing in the $100–$150 range. Lower end is helpdesk and basic monitoring. Upper end includes SOC, vCIO, and compliance support. Hourly rates for project work generally run $125–$200 in Austin. If a provider quotes you $50 per user per month for fully managed IT, ask what’s not included. There’s always something not included.
30 to 90 days is the realistic window. The first two weeks are documentation and discovery. Weeks three through six are tooling deployment, agent rollout, and security baseline. Weeks six through twelve are workflow integration and the first round of optimization projects. If a provider promises a clean cutover in two weeks, push back. Anyone moving that fast is skipping the diligence work that makes the relationship sustainable.
Fully managed means the MSP runs the entire IT function. Co-managed means you keep internal staff and the MSP fills specific gaps — usually after-hours coverage, security operations, project capacity, or vendor management. Both models work. Most Austin mid-market firms with 50+ employees end up co-managed because they need someone internal who knows the business, plus external scale and security expertise that’s expensive to staff in-house.
It’s not legally required. But an MSP without SOC 2 Type II is asking you to trust their internal controls based on their word. An MSP with SOC 2 Type II has had a third-party auditor verify those controls over a 6–12 month period. For regulated industries (healthcare, financial services, government contracting), SOC 2 Type II is effectively table stakes. Centre Technologies, Contigo, and TPx all have documented SOC 2 posture.
Two reasons. Clutch reviews require clients to complete a 30–60 minute verified phone interview — a significant time investment that many clients in regulated industries decline because it surfaces vendor relationships publicly. Second, some MSPs simply don’t prioritize Clutch as a marketing channel. The absence of Clutch reviews isn’t a quality signal in either direction. It’s a marketing-channel choice. What it does mean is that you have less independently verified client evidence to work with during due diligence.
