Virginia’s IT market is unlike most states. Northern Virginia runs the world’s largest concentration of data center capacity — the Ashburn corridor alone accounts for more than a third of all North American data center transactions, per JLL’s 2025 data center outlook. That density exists because the federal government and defense contractor base demands it. Thousands of Virginia companies operate under CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, and FedRAMP compliance requirements just to keep their contracts.

The Richmond market adds a different pressure — professional services, financial advisory firms, and healthcare organizations that need documented compliance infrastructure, not just IT support with security bolted on later.

This list covers the full state. Seven providers with verified Virginia presence, each scored identically against our Trust Score methodology. See how we score providers at itreviews.co/methodology/.

Teal managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Alexandria, VA | Founded: 2000 | tealtech.com

The number that stopped us: 8 consecutive years on the Channel Futures MSP 501. That’s the global list. Five hundred and one entries, ranked by revenue growth, profitability, and recurring revenue. Teal made it every single year from 2019 through 2026.

They also made Inc. 5000 from 2019 through 2026. And CRN’s Managed Service Provider 500 in 2020 and 2023. And Channel Futures Next-Generation MSPs in 2024.

An independent MSP in Alexandria, Virginia with 45 employees. Eight straight years on the most watched global MSP performance ranking. That doesn’t happen by accident, and it doesn’t happen by gaming the process.

Teal was built from two legacy Northern Virginia firms — TechGen Consulting and Aligned Technology Solutions — which merged in September 2023. Both were already on the MSP 501 independently before the merger. The combined entity inherits more than two decades of operational continuity under what is now the Teal brand. Clutch lists the founding year as 2000, which reflects the longer operational history.

What the reviews say

Teal holds a 4.9 on Clutch across 19 independently verified reviews and a perfect 5.0 on Google across 34 ratings. That’s the strongest dual-platform review profile on this list.

Clutch reviews consistently surface the same pattern: fast response, a partnership mindset, and a team that treats clients like they’re the only account. Several reviewers mention long-standing relationships — some extending across more than a decade. One review notes that Teal handles IT for a government contractor and has “served as an outsourced IT partner for years.”

The review themes here are relevant for buyers. They don’t describe a vendor who shows up at renewal time. They describe a team that’s embedded.

Service depth and compliance credentials

Teal covers the full managed IT stack — helpdesk, network monitoring, endpoint management, cybersecurity, cloud, backup and disaster recovery, and strategic IT planning. What separates it from the average Northern Virginia MSP is what’s documented behind the services.

They hold CMMC Level 2 certification. Not just Registered Practitioner Organization (RPO) status — actual Level 2, which requires an accredited third-party assessment organization (C3PAO) to verify that controls are actually implemented. They also hold CompTIA Security Trustmark+ and maintain an “A” rating on SecurityScorecard’s independent monitoring platform.

Their documented verticals include government contractors, financial services firms and registered investment advisors (RIAs), associations and nonprofits, and manufacturing. Each of these appears on Teal’s site with real service content, not just a logo strip.

The government contracting vertical is particularly developed. Teal CMMC, a dedicated subsidiary, was launched in 2026 to serve defense contractors and DIB suppliers working toward CMMC readiness. That level of specialization isn’t common — even among Northern Virginia MSPs that claim the vertical.

Where Teal fits best and where it doesn't

Teal is built around the regulated mid-market. SMBs in Northern Virginia that touch federal contracts, financial data, or healthcare records are exactly what this firm is designed to support. The 45-person team is large enough to cover co-managed IT scenarios and complex compliance engagements, but not large enough to absorb enterprise accounts with 1,000+ endpoints at the same responsiveness level.

If you need multi-state presence or a managed security operations center at enterprise scale, look at Ntiva or Red River instead. If you’re a government contractor in Fairfax, Arlington, or Alexandria who needs a local team that actually understands CMMC beyond the acronym — Teal is a serious choice.

Best For

Northern Virginia SMBs, defense industrial base companies working toward CMMC compliance, financial advisory firms, and government contractors under 250 employees.

Ntiva managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: McLean, VA | Founded: 2004 | ntiva.com

Ntiva didn’t edge Teal out for the top spot, but context matters here. Teal’s advantage comes from its review profile — both Clutch and Google trend cleaner and at higher volume for a firm its size. Ntiva operates at an entirely different scale: 18 locations across the United States, more than 400 employees, and revenue that has eclipsed $70M. The scoring methodology treats these two firms by the same criteria, which is correct, but you should understand what you’re buying with each.

The awards record is as strong as anything in the industry. Ntiva has appeared on the Channel Futures MSP 501 continuously from 2018 through 2026. CRN’s MSP 500 Elite 150 from 2022 through 2026. Inc. 5000 for five straight years. CRN Triple Crown in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 — that’s three major Channel Company recognitions in the same calendar year. And in early 2026, Ntiva achieved CMMC Level 2 certification through an accredited C3PAO, one of the first large-scale MSPs in the country to do so.

Clutch reviews, across 18 verified entries, consistently note rapid response times, strong relationship management, and long-term engagement stability. The one theme that cuts in the other direction: cost. Several reviewers flag Ntiva’s pricing as higher than regional alternatives. That’s not a hidden flaw — it’s an honest tradeoff that comes with 24/7 U.S.-based support, a national escalation network, and account management that includes quarterly reviews.

Ntiva’s vertical coverage is broader than any other provider on this list. Documented dedicated pages for government contractors, nonprofits, legal, financial services, healthcare, private equity, and manufacturing. CMMC Level 2 is the linchpin for government contracting clients — Ntiva can actually deliver on that requirement, not just consult on it.

The difference between Ntiva and Teal isn’t quality. It’s scale and price point. If your business operates across multiple Virginia locations or across state lines, if you need co-managed IT that can absorb a large IT team alongside your internal staff, or if your compliance posture requires the accountability layer that comes with a nationally-structured MSP, Ntiva is the practical choice over Teal’s boutique-adjacent depth.

Compared directly to Red River: Ntiva serves more of the private-sector mid-market. Red River runs heavier into cleared government work and enterprise infrastructure. Different buyers.

Best For

Multi-location Virginia businesses, government contractors who need CMMC at scale, and mid-market companies that want a nationally resourced MSP with a Virginia headquarters.

Red River managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Chantilly, VA | Founded: 1995 | redriver.com

Red River is the oldest firm on this list. Thirty-one years in operation, founded in 1995 in Claremont, New Hampshire with a major presence in Chantilly, Virginia that has become the company’s center of gravity for its federal and enterprise work. The difference between Red River and the other providers here isn’t depth or awards — it’s the buyer.

Teal and Ntiva compete primarily for the mid-market and SMB government contractor. Red River serves enterprise and public sector organizations that need IT transformation, not just support. Their managed services portfolio covers AI-driven cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure (Azure is a core competency), modern IT infrastructure, and what they describe as full lifecycle technology management. That lifecycle orientation matters in the federal space, where procurement, implementation, and ongoing operations are three distinct budget cycles.

CRN’s MSP 500 Elite 150 five consecutive years through 2026. CRN Tech Elite 250 in 2026. NetApp North America Civilian Partner of the Year in FY25. Cisco Federal Civilian Partner of the Year in 2023.

The review footprint is thin by design. One verified Clutch review, one Google review — both 5-star. Enterprise and government clients don’t leave public reviews at the same rate that SMB clients do. That’s not a credibility gap; it’s a business model signal. Their clients operate under procurement sensitivity that makes public case studies and named references rare.

Where Red River fits: large government contractors, defense-adjacent organizations in the Chantilly/Fairfax corridor, and enterprise buyers who need a managed services partner with 30+ years of federal IT history. Where it doesn’t: SMBs, organizations with sub-$50k IT budgets, or businesses that want a local Northern Virginia MSP with visible public review volume.

Best For

Government agencies, large defense contractors, and enterprise organizations in the DC metro corridor.

V2 Systems managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Manassas Park, VA | Founded: 1995 | v2systems.com

Forty-seven Google reviews. Perfect 5.0 rating. That’s the highest review volume on this list for any provider outside the Clutch top tier, and V2 Systems has maintained it since 1995. The absence of a Clutch profile costs them on the Review Score — per our methodology, a missing Clutch profile results in a permanent scoring penalty, not a neutral substitution — but the Google signal here is real.

V2 operates from Manassas Park with additional offices at Tysons Corner, in Bethesda, and in Washington, D.C. The firm specializes in the SMB and commercial government market — particularly organizations that need AWS GovCloud infrastructure, FISMA compliance, and FedRAMP-aligned cloud platforms. They hold AWS Public Sector Partner certification, which puts them in a specific lane: government-adjacent businesses and contractors that want cloud operations built on hardened federal cloud standards.

Client documentation on Cloudtango includes NovaTech and New Horizons Healthcare, with named reviewers describing IT roadmap development and department-level transformation work.

At 18 employees and roughly $3.4M in revenue, V2 Systems is the smallest firm in the top four. The Google review volume suggests client satisfaction. The scale limitation is real: complex multi-site engagements or high-frequency enterprise ticket loads would push the capacity ceiling.

Best For

DC metro SMBs and government contractors that need AWS GovCloud or FISMA-aligned IT with a local team.

NTS managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Midlothian, VA | Founded: 1998 | thinknts.com

Triple ISO certification is unusual for a regional MSP. Networking Technologies + Support holds ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 20000-1 (IT service management), and ISO 27001 (information security management). Getting three of those simultaneously requires documented processes, external audits, and ongoing maintenance. It’s not a badge you buy.

NTS has operated from Midlothian since 1998 — 28 years in the Richmond market. Their service portfolio covers managed IT, cybersecurity, structured cabling, IT field services, and procurement. The structured cabling capability is notable; most managed service providers refer that work out. NTS keeps it in-house, which matters for clients going through office builds or major infrastructure changes.

The 4.5/22 Google rating is the one score on this list that sits below 4.8. Not disqualifying, but worth noting. The Richmond market is competitive, and the review profile suggests clients are satisfied without being effusive.

No Clutch profile confirmed, which applies the same scoring penalty as V2 Systems and Strategic Solutions. The ISO certifications are significant operational maturity signals that lift the profile in the Years in Business and Service Breadth factors — but no industry awards from the Tier 1 lists were found.

Best For

Richmond-area businesses that want documented operational quality standards and structured IT procurement capability alongside managed services.

Strategic Solutions of Virginia managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Glen Allen, VA | Founded: 2001 | ssva.com

Founded in 2001, Strategic Solutions has spent 25 years focused on the Richmond and central Virginia market. The client documentation visible on Cloudtango includes Central Virginia Family Physicians, Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Richmond, Health Management Resources, and Affiliated Dermatologists of Virginia. That’s a real healthcare vertical with named clients — more documented than most regional MSPs claim.

The public review volume is thin. Seven Google reviews at 5.0. No confirmed Clutch profile. That scoring gap separates them from the top three providers despite a respectable operational history and a documented vertical that’s harder to fake than a generic “we serve healthcare” checkbox.

For central Virginia businesses — particularly healthcare-adjacent organizations in the Richmond metro — Strategic Solutions is worth a direct conversation. The 25-year tenure and named healthcare clients are real signals. The review platform presence needs to grow before the Trust Score reflects the full operational picture.

Best For

Richmond-area SMBs and healthcare-adjacent organizations in central Virginia.

E-N Computers managed IT services Virginia homepage

HQ: Waynesboro, VA (branch in Richmond) | encomputers.com

E-N Computers fills a coverage gap that the NoVA-heavy providers on this list can’t address: the Shenandoah Valley, Waynesboro, and rural central Virginia SMB market. Their Cloudtango profile lists Richmond as HQ with a Waynesboro branch, and their service territory covers Virginia and the DC area.

The Google rating is a perfect 5.0 across 23 reviews. No Clutch profile was found, which applies the standard scoring penalty. They hold CMMC Registered Practitioner Organization (RPO) status — not the full Level 2 certification of Teal or Ntiva, but meaningful. It means their team can advise defense contractor clients on CMMC compliance frameworks, which is relevant for smaller DIB suppliers in Virginia’s western corridor.

Services cover VoIP, Azure, backup and recovery, cloud migration, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, IT consulting, and helpdesk. Client case studies on Cloudtango include NovaTech (a technology company) and New Horizons Healthcare, both with named reviewers.

Where E-N Computers scores lowest is on the awards factor — no confirmed Tier 1 or Tier 2 industry recognition was found. That’s a ceiling, not a floor, but it keeps the Trust Score in the lower tier.

Best For

Waynesboro, Staunton, and Shenandoah Valley businesses that need local IT presence and CMMC advisory capability.

What Managed IT Services Cost in Virginia

No provider on this list publishes flat-rate pricing. That’s standard for MSPs. Managed services pricing depends on endpoint count, complexity, compliance requirements, and whether you’re buying fully managed or co-managed IT.

That said, some general market ranges apply:

  • Per-user pricing: Virginia MSPs typically quote in the $75–200/user/month range for fully managed IT. Providers with significant compliance overhead (CMMC, SOC 2, HIPAA) sit at the upper end.
  • Per-device pricing: $30–85/device/month depending on the device type and monitoring intensity.
  • Co-managed IT: Usually priced lower per user since the provider is supplementing, not replacing, an internal team. Ntiva and Teal both document co-managed options explicitly.
  • Compliance-as-a-service: CMMC preparation and certification support is often a separate engagement. Expect project-based pricing ($15k–100k+ for CMMC Level 2 depending on scope) layered over ongoing managed services.

None of these figures are quotes. Request a scope-specific proposal from any provider before comparing costs. The per-user number is only part of the picture — response time guarantees, dedicated account management, and compliance coverage all affect what you actually get.

How to Choose an MSP in Virginia

The question isn’t who’s the best MSP in Virginia. It’s who’s the right match for your specific operating context.

If your business touches federal contracts: CMMC compliance should be a hard requirement in your MSP evaluation. Teal (CMMC Level 2 certified), Ntiva (CMMC Level 2 certified), Red River (federal and defense-focused), V2 Systems (FISMA/FedRAMP-aligned), and E-N Computers (CMMC RPO) all have documented positions here. Not every MSP that mentions CMMC has gone through the verification process — ask specifically whether they’re a C3PAO, C3PAO-authorized, or RPO-only.

If you’re in healthcare or financial services: Look for named compliance pages, not just service lists. Strategic Solutions has documented healthcare client names. Teal’s financial services and RIA vertical has actual content behind it. Generic “we serve healthcare” claims are not the same thing.

If you’re in Richmond vs. Northern Virginia: The market dynamics are different. Northern Virginia has an abundance of MSP options and heavy competition, which generally means better pricing leverage and more specialists. Richmond is smaller; the top providers there (NTS, Strategic Solutions) have long-standing local relationships that may matter more than scale.

If you need response time guarantees: Ask for the SLA in writing, specifically around after-hours and on-call response. The review themes for Teal and Ntiva both mention fast response. NTS’s ISO 20000-1 certification means their service management processes are independently audited — that’s a different kind of response time assurance.

If you want to test before you commit: Several providers on this list — Ntiva and Teal explicitly — offer IT assessments or scoping conversations as a starting point. That’s the right way to compare. A proposal comparison across three providers from this list will tell you more than any ranking.

Questions Virginia IT Buyers Actually Ask

Not all, but the requirement is expanding. Under the CMMC 2.0 framework, Level 1 (basic cyber hygiene) applies to companies handling Federal Contract Information, while Level 2 (advanced) is required for companies handling Controlled Unclassified Information. Level 2 now requires a third-party C3PAO assessment rather than self-attestation. Virginia’s defense contractor base — particularly in Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, and the Shenandoah Valley — includes many businesses currently in the self-assessment phase that will need a C3PAO assessment before their next contract renewal. Check your contract requirements directly at cmmc.mil rather than relying on an MSP’s interpretation.
For remote IT work, less than you’d think. For onsite work, a lot. The entire MSP industry has shifted heavily to remote monitoring and management. But when a server fails, a wiring project needs hands, or a security incident requires a physical response, proximity matters. Providers with engineers in your area — not just an office address — are different from providers that list Virginia as a service area from a call center in another state. Ask specifically where the engineers who would handle your account are physically located.
Fully managed means the MSP handles everything — your internal IT team is the MSP. Co-managed means you have internal IT staff and the MSP supplements specific functions (helpdesk overflow, cybersecurity, cloud management, compliance support). Co-managed is growing because mid-market companies increasingly need specialized security and compliance expertise that’s hard to hire in-house, but still want an internal IT director who owns the technology strategy. Ntiva and Teal both document co-managed options. If you have internal IT staff, the co-managed conversation is worth having before assuming you need a full replacement.
Get the SLA in writing. Specifically, ask for the guaranteed response time for critical incidents (P1), high priority issues (P2), and normal tickets. Then ask how those priorities are defined — an MSP that defines “critical” narrowly can hit its P1 SLA without actually responding quickly to what you experience as urgent. The most useful question: ask what happened the last time a P1 incident occurred outside business hours. Their answer tells you more than any SLA document.
Enterprise and government clients almost never leave public reviews. It’s a client base issue, not a service quality issue. Red River, which serves large government contractors and agencies, has one public Clutch review — because its clients operate under procurement sensitivity, confidentiality requirements, or internal communications policies that make public testimonials rare. A thin review profile at a firm that’s clearly been operating for 30+ years is a different signal than a thin review profile at a 3-year-old company. Both factors matter in the Trust Score.
Several can. Ntiva has 18 locations across the United States and serves businesses with offices across multiple states. Teal serves the DC metro corridor including Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Red River operates nationally with a Virginia hub. V2 Systems has offices in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. For businesses that operate purely within Virginia, multi-state capability is largely irrelevant. For businesses that are growing, acquiring, or already distributed, confirm that the MSP has engineers physically in your other locations before signing.

The Bottom Line

Teal is Virginia’s highest-scoring MSP by Trust Score, and the scores are close at the top. The 0.1-point margin over Ntiva reflects a cleaner review profile at higher volume — not a meaningful quality difference between two firms that have both made the MSP 501 list for multiple consecutive years and hold CMMC Level 2 certification.

The honest second pick depends on your situation. If you need scale, multi-state coverage, or a nationally supported co-managed engagement, Ntiva is the right choice. If you’re a government contractor or defense-adjacent enterprise, Red River should be in your evaluation. For Virginia SMBs outside Northern Virginia, NTS (Richmond), Strategic Solutions (central Virginia), and E-N Computers (Shenandoah Valley) are the regional providers with documented local presence.
