Best MSPs for Technology Companies in Raleigh (2026)

Kate Larsen, IT Research Analyst · Last updated: June 12, 2026 · No paid placements
Net Friends ranks #1 for Raleigh-area technology companies in 2026, earning a Trust Score of 8.1/10 on the strength of multi-year MSP 501 recognition, SOC 2 Type II attestation, and Cloudtango’s MSP Select USA 2026 award. Petronella Technology Group (7.2) takes #2 with Raleigh-headquartered compliance and AI infrastructure depth. OnPar Technologies (7.2) follows on Microsoft cloud specialization. Rankings reflect six independently researched factors. No provider paid for placement.

Quick Picks

  • Best Overall: Net Friends — 8.1/10
  • Best for Enterprise / Cloud-Native: RapidScale — 5.4/10
  • Best for Funded Startups Scaling Past 50 Seats: OnPar Technologies — 7.2/10
  • Best for Compliance-Heavy SaaS (SOC 2, HIPAA, CMMC): Petronella Technology Group — 7.2/10

Tech companies in the Triangle don’t buy IT the same way a dental practice or a roofing company does. A funded SaaS team running on AWS doesn’t need somebody to come reset a printer. They need a partner who’s already conversant in SOC 2 controls, can sit in on a customer security questionnaire without flinching, and won’t slow down a deploy because someone forgot to renew a Microsoft 365 license. That’s a different MSP profile.

Raleigh and the wider Research Triangle have an unusually deep tech-buyer base. Built In tracks dozens of fast-growing software, fintech, and cloud companies headquartered in the city, including DataClarity, Pendo, Bandwidth, Tanium, Atomic Object, and a long tail of seed-to-Series-B startups working out of Raleigh, Durham, and Cary. Apple is building a $1B campus. Google has a Durham engineering hub. Microsoft opened a Raleigh hub. The buyer pool for tech-savvy managed IT keeps growing, and the providers serving them have to actually keep up.

This list ranks the seven MSPs best positioned to serve technology companies in Raleigh, scored on the itreviews.co Trust Score methodology. Real review data. Verifiable credentials. Documented vertical fit.

How We Ranked These MSPs

The Trust Score is a six-factor model applied identically to every provider. Same weights, same criteria, every time. No provider can buy their position.

Why these six factors and not others? Because they’re the signals tech-company buyers actually weight in a procurement process, not vanity metrics. For context, managed services are growing at roughly 13% annually, almost double the broader IT industry, with 82% of customers outsourcing more this year than last (Canalys, via Channel Futures, 2025). The market is getting more crowded, and the gap between strong MSPs and average ones is widening.

Trust Score Factors — Best MSPs for Tech Companies in Raleigh

35%
Review ScoreClutch (15%), Google (12%), and Cloudtango (3%). Volume is scored logarithmically so an MSP with a few enterprise clients isn’t penalized against one churning SMB review volume. A missing Clutch presence triggers a partial penalty, since Clutch verification requires real clients on the phone.
20%
Awards & RecognitionChannel Futures MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Cloudtango MSP Select, Inc. 5000. Verifiable third-party recognition only. Self-described “award-winning” with no named award scores zero.
15%
Years in BusinessTriangulated across the company’s site, LinkedIn founding date, and domain history. We use the most conservative figure where sources conflict.
10%
Physical PresenceHQ in the Raleigh/RTP corridor scores higher than a satellite office. National MSPs with one of fifteen US offices score lower, even when they’re competent. Virtual addresses don’t qualify.
10%
Industry SpecializationDocumented tech-vertical work: dedicated service pages, SOC 2 or CMMC attestations, and case studies that actually name software, SaaS, or fintech clients. A bullet point saying “we serve tech” without evidence scores low.
10%

The Top 7 MSPs for Technology Companies in Raleigh

1
The SOC 2-Native Triangle MSP
8.1
out of 10
Trust Score
Net Friends managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

Net Friends is the closest thing the Triangle has to a default MSP, and the only one on this list with public-facing SOC 2 Type II attestation since 2019. Tech-company buyers care because their own auditors care.

Key Strengths

  • SOC 2 Type II audit completed annually since 2019 by KirkpatrickPrice. Most Raleigh MSPs talk about security; Net Friends documents it
  • Channel Futures MSP 501 named in both 2023 and 2025, plus Cloudtango MSP Select USA 2026
  • 4.9 / 89 verified Google reviews — the highest combined rating and volume of any MSP on this list. ITIL-certified leadership and a current Microsoft Solutions Partner badge
  • Tech-adjacent client list includes Continuous Precision Medicine (healthtech), GP Agency, and a long tail of small and mid-market businesses across the Triangle
  • 27+ years operating in Durham, with owners who took over from the founder rather than getting acquired. That continuity matters

Limitations

  • Headquartered in Durham, not Raleigh proper. A 30-minute drive matters less than it used to, but it’s not the same as having engineers on Glenwood South
  • Their published case work is strong in healthcare and small-business segments. Less of it explicitly names software or SaaS companies, so the tech-firm fit is more inferable than advertised

Services: Managed IT (NetVisor), co-managed IT, cybersecurity, managed infrastructure (NetCore for Servers), 24/7 help desk, BDR, strategic IT consulting
Industries: Small-to-mid-sized businesses, healthcare, education, professional services, non-profits

Best For

Tech-adjacent SMBs and mid-market firms in the 30 to 250 seat range that need a partner who can survive a customer security questionnaire and produce SOC 2 evidence on demand.

Not Ideal For

Enterprise-scale software companies with dedicated security and DevOps teams that need a hyperscaler-native MSP, not a generalist.

Why They Rank #1

No other Raleigh-area MSP combines SOC 2 Type II attestation, MSP 501 recognition in multiple years, and Cloudtango’s 2026 award. That stack matters most when the buyer is a tech company whose own customers expect them to vet vendors carefully. The Durham HQ is the only real friction point, and it’s not much friction. Net Friends earns the top position on credentials that are actually verifiable.

2
The Raleigh-Native Compliance and AI Specialist
7.2
out of 10
Trust Score
Petronella Technology Group managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

If your tech company has compliance scope (SOC 2 Type II, CMMC, HIPAA-adjacent healthtech work), Petronella is the most credentialed local option. They’re also one of very few MSPs in the Southeast running their own private AI infrastructure on-premises.

Key Strengths

  • CMMC-AB Registered Provider Organization #1449. The credential means defense-adjacent SaaS or engineering firms can use Petronella for actual CMMC readiness work, not just talk about it
  • 5.0 / 15 Google rating from clients across defense, healthcare, legal, and engineering. Their published work includes a 35-person SaaS case where they consolidated AWS spend, eliminated $4,200 per month in unused compute, and replaced three overlapping security tools with one integrated stack
  • Founded 2002. Continuously BBB A+ accredited since 2003. Founder Craig Petronella holds the North Carolina Digital Forensic Examiner license #604180
  • Private AI cluster built on NVIDIA Elite Partner hardware, sold to clients that can’t send data to third-party model providers. For AI-native startups worried about data sovereignty, that’s rare

Limitations

  • Clutch profile is unclaimed. They have no verified phone-interview reviews on the platform, which holds the review-factor score down
  • The brand emphasizes cybersecurity and compliance over general managed IT, which can make them feel like overkill for a 10-person dev shop with no regulatory scope

Best For

Compliance-driven SaaS companies, defense-adjacent contractors needing CMMC readiness, healthtech and fintech firms with SOC 2 or HIPAA exposure, and any tech company building AI products that can’t sit on third-party model APIs.

Not Ideal For

Pre-seed or seed-stage tech startups with no compliance scope and a sub-$2K monthly IT budget.

Why They Rank #2

Petronella is the only MSP on this list with a Raleigh HQ, AI infrastructure built in-house, and a written SaaS-company case study showing actual dollars saved. They lose points on Clutch absence and award-recognition depth versus Net Friends. For compliance-scoped tech buyers, they’re arguably the most defensible pick on this entire page.

3
Microsoft Cloud Specialists, Now Part of Net at Work
7.2
out of 10
Trust Score
OnPar Technologies managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

OnPar is the deepest Microsoft cloud bench in the Triangle. If your stack is Azure, Microsoft 365, and Dynamics 365, they’ve been doing this longer and at a higher partner tier than most.

Key Strengths

  • 5.0 / 83 Google reviews — the highest review volume of any Raleigh-area MSP on this list, paired with a perfect rating
  • 2017 Microsoft US SMB East Region Partner of the Year. 2016 US SMB Champion Club Southeast Partner of the Year. Inc. 5000 in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 — four years on the list
  • Founded 2007. Durham HQ on Emperor Boulevard in the RTP corridor. Cloud-first positioning across Azure, M365, Dynamics, and SharePoint

Limitations

  • Acquired by Net at Work in February 2026. The brand is still operating, but new contracts and the long-term identity now sit under the parent company. Buyers should ask directly how the engagement model is changing
  • Unclaimed Clutch profile. Limited verified review depth on the most rigorous platform

Best For

Funded startups and mid-market tech companies that have standardized (or want to standardize) on the Microsoft cloud and need Azure expertise that doesn’t require flying in a Big Four consultancy.

Not Ideal For

AWS-native or multi-cloud teams. OnPar’s specialization is Microsoft, and that depth comes at the cost of breadth.

Why They Rank #3

OnPar earns the third position on Microsoft credentials that outclass the field and a Google review profile that’s hard to argue with. The Net at Work acquisition is the only meaningful question mark, and it’s a real one. Buyers should ask directly how the engagement model is changing.

4
WorkSmart
The Multi-Practice Triangle Regional
6.4
out of 10
Trust Score
WorkSmart managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

WorkSmart positions itself as a six-discipline IT partner (managed services, cybersecurity, AI, hybrid cloud, advisory, and resilience) under one accountable team. The breadth is real, even if no single discipline pops as elite.

Key Strengths

  • Founded 2001 (per Clutch) / 2003 (per their site). Either way, 20+ years operating in the Triangle
  • Public client list includes the NC TECH Association — a useful tech-vertical signal even if it’s a single named reference
  • Distinct AI practice area, which most regional MSPs are still figuring out how to talk about. WorkSmart has a productized version

Limitations

  • 4.6 / 37 Google reviews. Solid, but the lowest rating among the top four on this list
  • Unclaimed Clutch profile
  • No current Tier 1 award appearance (MSP 501, MSP Select 2026, Inc. 5000) found in 2025-2026 research

Best For

Mid-market technology firms in the 50 to 500 seat range that want a single-team, multi-discipline relationship and value advisory work as much as ticket resolution.

Not Ideal For

Buyers indexing heavily on third-party award recognition or who need deeply specialized AWS or Microsoft cloud certifications front and center.

Why They Rank #4

WorkSmart is a legitimate Triangle-native option with the broadest practice-area footprint of any provider on this list. They lose to the top three on review depth and current-cycle awards, not on competence. Worth a shortlist seat for any buyer who wants an integrated team.

5
Enitech
The Newcomer With MSP 501 Validation
5.8
out of 10
Trust Score
Enitech managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

Enitech is the newest credible MSP in the Raleigh field and the only one formally validated by Channel Futures inside the past two years. Small team, real recognition.

Key Strengths

  • Channel Futures named Enitech 2024 Newcomer of the Year on the MSP 501. CEO Antwine Jackson founded the company in late 2021 and built it to MSP 501 inclusion (ranked #394 in 2024) inside three years
  • 5.0 / 12 Google rating from a small but consistent review base
  • Built In categorizes Enitech under software, IoT, and IaaS — a tech-stack-forward identity that matters more than the headcount suggests

Limitations

  • Roughly 5 years in operation. Less institutional muscle than the 20+ year shops above
  • Cloudtango’s published client list leans dental (Morgenstern Orthodontics, Midland Dental, Dental Center of Charlotte) rather than software or SaaS. The tech-firm fit is more about Enitech’s capability profile than their client portfolio so far
  • 16 employees. That ceiling matters if you’re a fast-growing tech company that will outgrow them inside 18 months

Best For

Smaller Raleigh tech companies under 50 seats that value a tight, in-Raleigh team and don’t mind being a relatively senior client in the book.

Not Ideal For

Mid-market or growth-stage tech firms where the IT team needs to scale beyond what a 16-person MSP can support.

Why They Rank #5

Enitech earns this position on real, current MSP 501 recognition and a clean review profile. They sit below the four-provider gap above them because of operating history, scale, and client-base composition. A reasonable pick for the right-sized buyer.

6
RapidScale
Cox-Owned Enterprise Cloud, Not a Traditional MSP
5.4
out of 10
Trust Score
RapidScale managed cloud services in Raleigh, homepage

RapidScale isn’t a typical Raleigh local MSP. They’re a Cox Communications-owned enterprise managed cloud services firm operating out of Raleigh with a national footprint. That’s a different category of provider.

Key Strengths

  • AWS Premier Partner, Microsoft Azure Expert MSP, certified Google Cloud Partner, and one of Broadcom VMware’s select Elite partners. 2,000+ managed cloud clients, 1,000+ public cloud migrations, and a FinOps practice the firm reports reduces client cloud bills by 15 to 30% on average
  • Data centers certified across SSAE-18 SOC 1 and SOC 2, ISO, HITRUST, HIPAA, and PCI DSS. For tech companies running regulated workloads, that’s a real credential stack
  • 600+ employees. The scale exists in a way that no local MSP can match

Limitations

  • No standalone local Google Business Profile under “RapidScale” returned a valid managed-services listing in our research; the address tied to “Rapidscale Inc” in Raleigh returned a Cox communications tower with a 3.3 / 7 rating. Their local review footprint is functionally absent
  • They sell enterprise contracts, not 25-seat managed IT packages. For most Raleigh tech startups under 100 seats, RapidScale isn’t the right fit even when the capability is there
  • Cox-owned. That introduces telecom-carrier procurement dynamics that don’t exist with a local independent MSP

Best For

Mid-market and enterprise tech companies running multi-cloud workloads at scale, with formal procurement processes and enterprise security requirements.

Not Ideal For

Startups under 50 seats, or SMBs that need local helpdesk presence and a named account manager rather than a tier-based enterprise support model.

Why They Rank #6

RapidScale’s cloud-vertical credentials are stronger than any other provider on this list. The Trust Score lands here because the model doesn’t compete on local-MSP signals like review depth, named local engineers, and single-point-of-contact accountability. They’re the right answer for a specific buyer profile and the wrong answer for everyone else.

7
CoreManaged
Co-Managed IT From an Indianapolis HQ With a Raleigh Office
5.0
out of 10
Trust Score
CoreManaged managed IT services in Raleigh, homepage

CoreManaged is a Greenwood, Indiana-based MSP with offices in Indianapolis, Raleigh, and Atlanta. Their differentiator is co-managed IT, supplementing in-house teams rather than replacing them.

Key Strengths

  • Co-managed delivery model is a real differentiator for tech companies with an internal IT lead but limited bench depth
  • Compliance practice covering NIST, CMMC, HIPAA, and SaaS security. Meaningful for tech firms with regulatory exposure
  • 4.8 / 33 aggregated Google reviews per Trustindex, though we couldn’t verify this directly against a primary GBP listing in our research

Limitations

  • HQ in Indianapolis, not Raleigh. The Raleigh office at 4509 Creedmoor Road is one of three US locations
  • No documented Tier 1 industry award appearances (MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Inc. 5000, Cloudtango MSP Select) in 2025-2026 research
  • Published industry pages emphasize manufacturing, law firms, and real estate. No dedicated technology-companies vertical page on the site

Best For

Mid-market firms with an in-house IT manager who wants extra engineers on tap rather than full outsourcing.

Not Ideal For

Tech buyers who want a Raleigh-HQ provider with a deep local team and demonstrable industry recognition.

Why They Rank #7

CoreManaged earns the seventh position not because the work isn’t credible — the co-managed model is useful for the right buyer. They sit here because the local-Raleigh signal is thinner than every provider above them and no Tier 1 award validates the operational maturity claim.

How to Choose a Managed IT Partner for a Raleigh Tech Company

The right MSP for a Raleigh technology company depends on three filters applied in order: compliance scope, internal IT staffing, and cloud-native maturity. Match the provider to where you actually sit on those three axes, not where your VC deck says you’ll be in 18 months.

Filter 1: Compliance scope. A 12-person early-stage SaaS shop with no enterprise customers yet has a different shortlist than a 90-person fintech preparing for SOC 2 Type II. If you’re answering security questionnaires from enterprise prospects, the MSP needs to have done this work before, not “be familiar with the framework.” Net Friends and Petronella are the two providers here with documented attestation work. CoreManaged has a written compliance practice. The rest can support the process but probably haven’t led one for a SaaS client.

Filter 2: Internal IT staffing. If you already have a head of IT or a DevOps lead and you need bench depth, CoreManaged’s co-managed model is built for that. If you have zero internal IT, you want a full-service shop — Net Friends, Petronella, or OnPar fit. WorkSmart sits in between and can run either pattern. RapidScale assumes you have internal teams and procurement maturity.

Filter 3: Cloud-native maturity. Companies running heavy AWS workloads should weight RapidScale and Petronella above the field. Microsoft 365 and Azure shops should weight OnPar. Mixed environments or smaller cloud footprints fit Net Friends or WorkSmart cleanly.

A practical budget signal. Raleigh MSPs typically quote $2,000 to $6,000 monthly for small businesses under 50 employees and $8,000 to $15,000+ for midsize companies, with premiums for HIPAA-compliant hosting and dedicated security operations centers (Clutch.co Raleigh MSP guide, 2026). If your seat count puts you in the $4K to $10K range and you’re a tech company, expect to land with one of the top four providers on this list.

One more thing, said directly. Cheap and tech-savvy rarely coexist in the same MSP. If three quotes come back and one is 40% cheaper than the others, the cheap one is probably not running the same level of security stack, monitoring, or compliance documentation. That’s the trade.

The Bottom Line

Net Friends earns the #1 position for Raleigh-area technology companies in 2026 on a credential stack that no other regional provider matches: SOC 2 Type II attestation since 2019, Channel Futures MSP 501 in both 2023 and 2025, and Cloudtango MSP Select USA 2026. The Durham HQ is the only real friction, and it’s modest.

Where does that leave the rest of the field? Petronella Technology Group is the strongest pick for compliance-heavy SaaS, defense-adjacent contractors, and AI-data-sovereignty buyers. OnPar Technologies wins for Microsoft cloud-native teams, with the caveat of the Net at Work acquisition still being integrated. RapidScale is the right answer for enterprise-scale cloud workloads that don’t fit a local MSP model in the first place.

What Tech Companies Actually Ask Before Hiring an MSP

The honest version: monitor your endpoints, run patch management on your laptops, manage Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, sit on call when something breaks, run a security stack (endpoint detection, email security, identity management), do quarterly business reviews, and answer your help desk tickets. For a tech-forward MSP, add cloud cost optimization, security questionnaire support, SOC 2 evidence prep, and vCISO advisory. The dental-practice version of managed IT is not the same product as the SaaS-startup version, even when the price tag looks similar.
30 to 60 days for a clean cutover from another MSP. 45 to 90 days if you’re coming from no provider at all and they have to inventory environments, document architecture, and roll out their monitoring stack across machines they’ve never seen. Fast onboarding is sometimes a sign of skipped discovery, not efficiency.
It’s meaningful, with a caveat. An MSP’s SOC 2 attestation tells you their internal controls have been audited by a third party. That’s a real signal about how they handle your data. It doesn’t mean they can do your SOC 2 audit for you — those are different engagements. Net Friends has the attestation. Petronella does the readiness work for clients. Different value, both legitimate.
Mostly remote is fine. The work that requires on-site presence (hardware refreshes, office moves, new server installs) is a small percentage of the relationship. Where Raleigh HQ matters is account management familiarity with the local ecosystem — which auditors clients use, which VCs ask which security questions, which compliance shops to recommend. That’s real, even if it’s not most of the value.
Three signals. Do they list named SaaS or software clients in case studies, not industry bullets? Do they have a written process for security questionnaire support? Do their engineers talk fluently about AWS, Azure, or GCP without translating? If yes to all three, they’re tech-savvy. If they pivot to “we work with all industries” inside two minutes, they’re a generalist with a tech vertical page.
Roughly $4,000 to $8,500 monthly for the kind of MSP that can support a 40-person SaaS team with security questionnaire help, M365 or Workspace management, endpoint security, and quarterly reviews. Add 20 to 40% if you need SOC 2 audit support layered on. Below $3,500 monthly at that team size, you’re getting helpdesk and basic monitoring, not the tech-firm version.
